Specialist Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill pediatric patients

• Manage children with acute, complex, and life-threatening medical and surgical conditions

• Provide advanced pediatric critical care and continuous patient monitoring

• Manage acute respiratory failure and provide mechanical ventilation when required

• Manage sepsis, septic shock, and other critical infections

• Provide hemodynamic monitoring and appropriate cardiovascular support

• Manage neurological emergencies and critically ill patients with acute neurological conditions

• Provide post-operative and post-procedural intensive care

• Perform and assist with appropriate critical care procedures within the candidate’s scope of practice

• Monitor patients’ clinical status and adjust treatment plans accordingly

• Coordinate care with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other multidisciplinary teams

• Communicate effectively with parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching and training activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Pediatrics / Pediatric Intensive Care

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience

• Significant clinical experience in Pediatric Intensive Care

• Strong experience in the management of critically ill pediatric patients

• Experience with mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, and advanced pediatric monitoring

• Eligibility for Specialist-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP

• Additional fellowship, advanced training, or recognised subspecialty experience in Pediatric Intensive Care is preferred
