Paediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Consultant

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation management for infants, children, and adolescents with physical and functional impairments

• Assess and manage paediatric patients with congenital, developmental, neurological, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions

• Develop individualized rehabilitation plans based on each patient’s medical, functional, developmental, and psychosocial needs

• Manage children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, brain and spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disorders, and other complex disabilities

• Assess and manage mobility limitations, gait abnormalities, muscle weakness, spasticity, and functional impairments

• Provide comprehensive spasticity management and coordinate appropriate interventions where required

• Evaluate patients for orthotics, prosthetics, mobility aids, assistive devices, and adaptive equipment

• Coordinate physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and other rehabilitation interventions

• Provide rehabilitation management following trauma, surgery, neurological injury, or prolonged hospitalization

• Monitor patients’ functional progress and adjust rehabilitation plans accordingly

• Establish appropriate short-term and long-term functional rehabilitation goals

• Provide patient and family education regarding rehabilitation plans, home programs, mobility, and long-term care

• Coordinate care with paediatricians, neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, therapists, psychologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Provide appropriate inpatient and outpatient paediatric rehabilitation services

• Support transition planning and continuity of care for children with long-term rehabilitation needs

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation with recognised training or substantial specialist experience in Paediatric Rehabilitation

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience, with significant experience in Paediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

• Extensive experience managing children and adolescents with complex physical, neurological, developmental, and functional conditions

• Strong clinical experience in multidisciplinary paediatric rehabilitation

• Demonstrated experience in both inpatient and outpatient paediatric rehabilitation settings

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
