Consultant Sports Medicine

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of sports-related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic sports injuries

• Assess and manage muscle, tendon, ligament, joint, and overuse injuries

• Develop personalised treatment and rehabilitation plans

• Provide guidance on injury prevention and safe return to sports and physical activity

• Perform appropriate sports medicine procedures within the candidate’s area of expertise

• Monitor patients’ clinical progress and adjust treatment and rehabilitation plans accordingly

• Coordinate care with physiotherapists, orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, and other multidisciplinary teams

• Provide appropriate follow-up and long-term management

• Educate patients and athletes on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance-related health

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching and training activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Sports Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Sports Medicine

• Significant clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of sports-related and musculoskeletal conditions

• Strong experience in sports injury management and rehabilitation

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP
