Consultant Pediatric Hematologist

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of hematological disorders affecting infants, children, and adolescents

• Diagnose and manage anemia, including iron deficiency, hemolytic, aplastic, and other complex forms of anemia

• Assess and manage hemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease and thalassemia

• Diagnose and manage platelet disorders, thrombocytopenia, and other disorders of hemostasis

• Assess and manage inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, including hemophilia and von Willebrand disease

• Evaluate and manage thrombotic disorders and abnormalities of coagulation in pediatric patients

• Assess children with unexplained cytopenias, abnormal blood counts, lymphadenopathy, and other suspected hematological conditions

• Diagnose and manage bone marrow failure syndromes and other complex hematological disorders

• Interpret hematological investigations, peripheral blood findings, coagulation studies, and other relevant diagnostic tests

• Perform or supervise appropriate hematological procedures, including bone marrow aspiration and biopsy where clinically indicated

• Develop individualized treatment and long-term management plans for children with chronic hematological disorders

• Monitor treatment response, disease progression, and potential complications and adjust management plans accordingly

• Coordinate transfusion therapy and appropriate blood product support where required

• Provide appropriate inpatient consultations and outpatient pediatric hematology services

• Manage acute hematological presentations and emergencies

• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, medication, complications, and long-term management

• Coordinate care with pediatricians, geneticists, immunologists, infectious disease specialists, intensive care teams, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and complex patient management

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Pediatric Hematology / Pediatric Hematology-Oncology with substantial clinical expertise in Pediatric Hematology

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Pediatric Hematology

• Significant experience managing a broad range of congenital and acquired pediatric hematological disorders

• Strong clinical experience in hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and coagulation disorders, cytopenias, and complex hematological conditions

• Demonstrated experience in both inpatient and outpatient pediatric hematology

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority

• Required specialty/title: Pediatric Hematology – Consultant

• Arabic-speaking candidates are required
