Consultant Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric patients presenting with acute and emergency conditions

• Manage a broad range of pediatric medical and surgical emergencies

• Assess and stabilize critically ill and injured children

• Manage pediatric trauma, respiratory emergencies, sepsis, shock, and acute infections

• Provide emergency management of seizures, altered consciousness, and neurological emergencies

• Manage acute allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, and other life-threatening conditions

• Perform and supervise appropriate emergency procedures and resuscitation

• Lead and participate in pediatric advanced life support and emergency resuscitation

• Assess patients presenting with abdominal pain, dehydration, fever, and other acute pediatric conditions

• Coordinate care with pediatric specialists, surgeons, intensivists, and other multidisciplinary teams

• Determine appropriate admission, observation, referral, or discharge plans

• Provide appropriate patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine

• Significant experience managing a broad range of pediatric emergency and acute care conditions

• Strong experience in pediatric resuscitation, trauma, and critical care

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP
