Consultant Ophthalmologist

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of oculoplastic conditions

• Perform eyelid, orbital, and lacrimal procedures

• Manage eyelid malpositions, ptosis, eyelid lesions, and other periocular conditions

• Perform functional and reconstructive eyelid surgery

• Manage orbital diseases and perform appropriate orbital procedures

• Diagnose and treat lacrimal system disorders, including nasolacrimal duct obstruction

• Perform lacrimal and tear duct procedures where appropriately qualified

• Manage orbital and periocular trauma

• Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative patient care

• Develop individualized surgical and treatment plans based on clinical assessment and imaging

• Collaborate with ophthalmologists, ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching and training activities where required
  

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Ophthalmology

• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Oculoplastic, Orbital & Lacrimal Surgery

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Ophthalmology

• Significant experience in Oculoplastic Surgery

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP

• Strong experience in functional and reconstructive procedures

• Expertise in managing ptosis, eyelid malpositions, and periocular conditions

• Strong knowledge of orbital and lacrimal disorders

• Excellent surgical judgement and clinical decision-making skills

• Strong patient communication and counselling skills

• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams

• Strong leadership, collaboration, and teamwork skills

• Commitment to patient safety, surgical excellence, and continuous quality improvement
