Consultant Neonatologist

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of newborns requiring neonatal and intensive care

• Manage premature, extremely preterm, low-birth-weight, and critically ill neonates

• Provide advanced neonatal resuscitation and stabilization in the delivery room

• Manage neonatal respiratory conditions, including respiratory distress syndrome and other causes of respiratory failure

• Provide and supervise appropriate respiratory support, including invasive and non-invasive ventilation

• Diagnose and manage neonatal sepsis, infections, metabolic disorders, and other acute neonatal conditions

• Manage neonatal jaundice, hypoglycaemia, feeding difficulties, and other common neonatal disorders

• Assess and manage infants with congenital abnormalities and complex medical conditions

• Provide appropriate management of neonatal neurological, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and renal conditions

• Manage neonatal nutrition, including enteral and parenteral nutritional support

• Monitor growth, development, and clinical progress of premature and high-risk newborns

• Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response when required

• Develop individualized treatment and care plans for critically ill and high-risk neonates

• Provide appropriate counselling and ongoing communication with parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and progress

• Coordinate care with paediatricians, paediatric surgeons, obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, cardiologists, neurologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Participate in discharge planning and appropriate follow-up of high-risk neonates

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, simulation, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Neonatology / Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Neonatology

• Extensive experience managing premature, critically ill, and medically complex neonates

• Strong clinical experience in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)

• Demonstrated expertise in neonatal resuscitation, respiratory support, and management of neonatal emergencies

• Strong experience in both delivery-room stabilization and ongoing intensive neonatal care

• Current DOH License as Consultant Neonatology is required

• Required specialty/title: Neonatology – Consultant

• Arabic-speaking candidates are required
