Consultant Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment and management of critically ill patients in the ICU

• Manage patients with acute neurological and neurosurgical conditions requiring intensive care

• Manage patients with traumatic brain injuries, stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, and other acute neurological conditions

• Provide advanced monitoring and management of critically ill patients

• Assess and manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other organ support

• Monitor neurological status and respond promptly to clinical deterioration

• Coordinate care with neurologists, neurosurgeons, emergency physicians, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Develop and implement evidence-based critical care treatment plans

• Provide appropriate post-operative and post-procedural intensive care

• Communicate effectively with patients’ families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching and training activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Intensive Care Medicine / Critical Care Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Intensive Care Medicine

• Significant experience in Neurocritical Care

• Strong clinical experience in managing critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP
