Consultant Infectious Diseases

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of infectious diseases.

• Manage complex bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.

• Provide consultation and clinical management for inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases.

• Develop and implement evidence-based antimicrobial treatment plans.

• Manage infections in critically ill and immunocompromised patients.

• Provide guidance on antimicrobial therapy and participate in antimicrobial stewardship programs.

• Assess and manage healthcare-associated and complicated infections.

• Collaborate with microbiologists, intensivists, surgeons, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.

• Provide recommendations regarding infection prevention and control measures.

• Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure appropriate patient follow-up.

• Provide counselling and education to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and infection prevention.

• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, infection control, and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Tier 1 specialist qualification, American Board (ABMS certification), UK CCT/CCST, Canadian Royal College certification, or equivalent recognised qualification in Infectious Diseases or Internal Medicine with subspecialty training in Infectious Diseases.

Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience.

Proven expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex infectious diseases.

• Strong experience in antimicrobial therapy and antimicrobial stewardship.

• Experience managing infections in critically ill and immunocompromised patients.

• Experience in infection prevention and control.

Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, MOHAP, or the relevant UAE health authority.
