Consultant Gastroenterologist

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic disorders

• Diagnose and manage upper and lower gastrointestinal conditions, including reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and functional gastrointestinal disorders

• Assess and manage liver, biliary, gallbladder, and pancreatic conditions

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy

• Perform ERCP independently for diagnostic and therapeutic indications

• Manage biliary obstruction, choledocholithiasis, strictures, and other pancreatobiliary conditions using ERCP

• Perform appropriate therapeutic interventions during ERCP, including sphincterotomy, stone extraction, and biliary stenting where clinically indicated

• Assess and manage patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis and other pancreatic disorders

• Manage gastrointestinal bleeding and provide appropriate emergency endoscopic intervention

• Evaluate and manage patients with abnormal liver function tests and chronic liver disease

• Provide appropriate screening and surveillance for gastrointestinal malignancies

• Develop individualized treatment and follow-up plans based on clinical findings and diagnostic investigations

• Provide appropriate inpatient consultations and outpatient gastroenterology services

• Participate in emergency and on-call gastroenterology coverage where required

• Coordinate care with surgeons, hepatologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Gastroenterology

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Gastroenterology

• Significant experience managing a broad range of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic conditions

• Extensive hands-on experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy

• Strong and independently demonstrated ERCP experience is essential

• Significant experience in therapeutic management of biliary and pancreatic conditions using ERCP

• Demonstrated experience in both inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
