Consultant Fetal Medicine Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment and management of high-risk pregnancies and suspected fetal abnormalities

• Perform advanced fetal ultrasound examinations, including detailed fetal anatomy and anomaly scans

• Conduct first-trimester screening and assessment for chromosomal and structural abnormalities

• Perform fetal growth, Doppler, and wellbeing assessments

• Diagnose and manage fetal growth restriction and other fetal growth abnormalities

• Assess and manage multiple pregnancies, including complex monochorionic pregnancies

• Evaluate suspected congenital anomalies and fetal structural abnormalities

• Provide prenatal screening, diagnostic evaluation, and counselling for chromosomal and genetic conditions

• Perform or coordinate invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures, including amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling where appropriate

• Assess and manage pregnancies complicated by maternal medical conditions that may affect fetal health

• Develop individualized management and surveillance plans for high-risk pregnancies

• Provide counselling to patients and families regarding fetal abnormalities, prognosis, diagnostic options, and pregnancy management

• Coordinate care with obstetricians, neonatologists, paediatric specialists, geneticists, radiologists, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Participate in multidisciplinary fetal medicine and prenatal diagnosis meetings

• Support appropriate planning of timing, location, and mode of delivery for pregnancies complicated by fetal conditions

• Provide appropriate follow-up and surveillance throughout pregnancy

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with recognised subspecialty training in Fetal Medicine / Maternal-Fetal Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience with significant experience in Fetal Medicine

• Extensive experience in advanced fetal ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis

• Strong experience in the assessment and management of fetal abnormalities and high-risk pregnancies

• Demonstrated experience in prenatal screening and invasive diagnostic procedures

• Strong experience working within multidisciplinary fetal medicine and high-risk pregnancy services

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
