Consultant Fetal Medicine

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage women with high-risk pregnancies requiring specialist fetal medicine care.

• Perform advanced fetal and maternal assessments using ultrasound and other appropriate diagnostic techniques.

• Conduct detailed fetal anomaly scans and evaluate suspected fetal abnormalities.

• Provide prenatal screening and diagnosis for chromosomal and genetic conditions.

• Manage complex fetal conditions and pregnancies complicated by maternal or fetal disease.

• Perform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasound and Doppler studies.

• Counsel patients and families regarding fetal findings, prognosis, available treatment options, and pregnancy management.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with obstetricians, geneticists, neonatologists, pediatric specialists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals.

• Participate in the assessment and management of fetal growth restriction, multiple pregnancies, fetal infections, and other high-risk conditions.

• Provide appropriate antenatal surveillance and follow-up throughout pregnancy.

• Participate in fetal medicine multidisciplinary meetings and complex case discussions.

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure appropriate patient follow-up.

• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.

• Participate in teaching, training, and mentoring of junior medical staff where applicable.

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine / Fetal Medicine / Obstetrics and Gynecology with subspecialty training in Fetal Medicine.

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including eligible ABMS certification, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board certification, or equivalent recognised qualification.

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Fetal Medicine or Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

• Extensive experience in advanced obstetric ultrasound and fetal assessment.

• Strong experience in prenatal screening, fetal anomalies, and high-risk pregnancy management.

• Experience in fetal growth restriction, multiple pregnancies, fetal medicine complications, and genetic or chromosomal conditions.

• Proficiency in fetal Doppler and advanced ultrasound techniques.

• Experience in invasive fetal diagnostic procedures, such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling, is desirable where within scope of practice.

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, MOHAP, or the relevant UAE health authority.
