Consultant Endocrinologist

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of endocrine and metabolic disorders

• Diagnose and manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus and associated complications

• Manage complex diabetes cases, including insulin therapy and appropriate diabetes technologies

• Diagnose and manage thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, and other thyroid conditions

• Assess and manage pituitary and hypothalamic disorders

• Diagnose and manage adrenal disorders, including adrenal insufficiency and hormone excess conditions

• Assess and manage disorders of calcium, bone, and mineral metabolism, including osteoporosis

• Diagnose and manage parathyroid disorders

• Assess and manage obesity, metabolic syndrome, and related metabolic conditions

• Evaluate and manage lipid disorders and other endocrine-related cardiovascular risk factors

• Diagnose and manage reproductive and gonadal endocrine disorders where appropriate

• Assess patients with suspected hormonal abnormalities and provide appropriate diagnostic evaluation

• Interpret endocrine laboratory investigations, dynamic endocrine testing, and relevant imaging findings

• Develop individualized treatment and long-term management plans for patients with chronic endocrine disorders

• Monitor patients’ clinical progress, laboratory results, and treatment response and adjust management plans accordingly

• Provide patient education regarding diabetes, endocrine disorders, medication, lifestyle modification, and long-term disease management

• Provide appropriate inpatient consultations and outpatient endocrinology services

• Manage endocrine emergencies and complex hospitalized patients where required

• Coordinate care with internal medicine physicians, surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Endocrinology / Endocrinology and Metabolism

• Recognised specialist qualification from an appropriate accredited medical board or professional authority

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Endocrinology

• Significant experience managing a broad range of endocrine, hormonal, and metabolic disorders

• Strong clinical experience in diabetes, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic disease management

• Demonstrated experience managing complex endocrine conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
