Consultant Emergency Medicine

Responsibilities

* Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department

* Manage a broad range of acute medical and surgical emergencies

* Perform rapid assessment and prioritization of critically ill and unstable patients

* Manage major trauma, acute injuries, and emergency surgical conditions

* Assess and manage acute cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, infectious, and metabolic emergencies

* Provide emergency care for patients with acute chest pain, stroke, sepsis, respiratory distress, and other life-threatening conditions

* Perform and interpret appropriate emergency diagnostic investigations

* Perform emergency procedures within the scope of clinical expertise

* Manage airway emergencies and provide advanced airway support where required

* Provide appropriate resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients

* Participate in cardiac arrest and advanced life support management

* Coordinate patient care with intensive care, surgery, cardiology, neurology, and other specialist teams

* Provide appropriate inpatient consultations and facilitate safe admissions, transfers, or discharges

* Ensure appropriate clinical documentation and timely communication with patients and families

* Provide clear explanations and counselling to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up

* Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and emergency care pathways

* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

* Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

* Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

* Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency department protocols and clinical guidelines

Qualifications

* Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine

* Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

* Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Emergency Medicine

* Extensive experience managing a broad range of acute medical, surgical, traumatic, and critical care presentations

* Demonstrated experience in emergency resuscitation and management of critically ill patients

* Strong experience in advanced life support and emergency procedures

* Experience in trauma and major emergency management

* Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
