Consultant Critical Care

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients with complex and life-threatening medical conditions

• Provide comprehensive critical care management for patients in intensive care and high-dependency settings

• Manage patients with acute respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, infectious, and multi-organ conditions

• Provide advanced monitoring and management of critically ill patients

• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other advanced respiratory support

• Assess and manage patients with sepsis, septic shock, and other critical infections

• Provide hemodynamic assessment and management of critically ill patients

• Manage acute organ dysfunction and multi-organ failure

• Provide appropriate resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients

• Participate in emergency response and critical care consultations throughout the hospital

• Develop individualized treatment and management plans based on clinical assessment and diagnostic findings

• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with specialists, nursing teams, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals

• Provide appropriate communication and counselling to patients' families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, and ongoing care

• Monitor treatment response, clinical progress, and potential complications

• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and critical care rounds

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, research, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in Critical Care Medicine / Intensive Care Medicine

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including eligible ABMS certification, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience in Critical Care / Intensive Care Medicine

• Strong clinical experience managing critically ill adult patients

• Extensive experience in intensive care and high-dependency environments

• Strong experience in mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic management, sepsis, and multi-organ failure

• Experience in advanced resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DHA, DOH, or MOHAP
