Consultant Breast Surgeon

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and surgical management of benign and malignant breast conditions

• Evaluate patients presenting with breast lumps, abnormalities, breast pain, nipple changes, and other breast-related concerns

• Manage patients with confirmed or suspected breast cancer throughout the surgical pathway

• Perform appropriate breast surgical procedures, including breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy

• Perform sentinel lymph node biopsy and appropriate axillary surgical procedures where clinically indicated

• Manage benign breast diseases requiring surgical assessment or intervention

• Review and interpret relevant breast imaging, pathology, and diagnostic investigations in collaboration with specialist teams

• Participate actively in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings and treatment planning

• Develop individualized surgical management plans based on diagnosis, disease stage, patient needs, and multidisciplinary recommendations

• Provide preoperative assessment, counselling, and informed consent for breast surgical procedures

• Provide appropriate postoperative care and monitor patients for surgical complications and recovery

• Coordinate care with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, breast radiologists, pathologists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and other multidisciplinary specialists

• Support appropriate referral for breast reconstruction and oncoplastic procedures where required

• Provide appropriate follow-up and surveillance following breast surgery

• Provide clear and compassionate counselling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, treatment plans, and expected outcomes

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives

• Support teaching, training, and mentoring activities where required

Qualifications

• Board certification or recognised specialist qualification in General Surgery / Breast Surgery with recognised subspecialty training and significant experience in Breast Surgery

• Recognised Tier 1 specialist qualification, including ABMS, Canadian Royal College certification, UK CCT/CCST, European Board, or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialisation experience with significant independent experience in Breast Surgery

• Extensive experience in the surgical management of both benign and malignant breast conditions

• Strong experience in breast cancer surgery and multidisciplinary breast cancer care

• Demonstrated experience managing complex breast surgical cases

• Eligibility for Consultant-level licensing with DOH or the relevant UAE healthcare regulatory authority
